TURN OFF THE MACHINES is a stunningly original graphic novel charting the journey of a toy elephant whose trunk is stitched to his chest. After waking up in a near-empty library, he is given a plain and very simple task – to turn off six machines dotted across an abstract, crumbling world. Each one is failing for reasons unknown, and so, he must set out on a quest to stop them. A haunting, gothic narrative which taps into ideas of naïve adolescence, military idolisation, and the wasteful loss of innocent life.

Reminiscent of Tim Burton and Edward Gorey, the aesthetic of the book is morbid and twisted with a sprinkle of dark humour.

Joshua Sims is an illustrator and graphic novelist from Leicestershire. His stories are deeply rooted in the macabre, the whimsical, and everything in-between, drawing inspiration from a lifelong love of horror, folklore, and history.

Josh also graduated from Staffordshire University with a degree in Cartoon and Comic Arts. One day, he hopes to build a mechanical cat too, though that isn't really related.
